When you work as a veterinary surgeon you are in a very different position to that of a doctor. A doctor only has one type of creature to look after – the human being. However, when you are a vet, you can be looking after a dog or cat, an elephant, a seal, a lizard, a budgerigar, a badger, and even fish. So, you have many different creatures to care for against the doctor’s one.
However, there are certain similarities when it comes to running the practices of either a vet or a doctor, and that is that both of you can go sick. You can also both need paternity leave, time off for jury service, compassionate leave, have accidents, and so on, and this means that both of you will need the services of a locum from time to time.
However, as no two GP practices are the same, neither are any two veterinary surgeries. This means that when you are looking for vets’ locum insurance which you need to cover the extra costs of hiring a locum, the cover that your particular practice needs will not be the same as that of another.
So, for example, you may be able to manage, or prepared to pay the extra for, say, a month, from the date that you have a partner or other senior employee off sick or on jury service, while another practice may require cover from day one. In this example, with the vets’ locum insurance plans we have at Approachable Locum Insurance, your premium will be lower than the other practice.
A Policy Tailored To Your Precise Requirements
This is because, when you need locum insurance, we can tailor your policy to fit the exact needs of your practice so that you are covered for everything that you need cover for, while at the same time you are not paying a premium for anything that you don’t need. We do not take the view that one size fits all.
You need to consider how your practice presently handles staff absences. For instance, what costs are involved when someone is away on sick leave? How do you manage to cover for them, especially if someone is away for a month or two? In a perfect situation, what could you do that would be an improvement over the way you are handling things at the moment? Do you presently use locums, and if not, why not? Do you already have locum insurance but find it does not cover you for everything you need, or perhaps even covers something that you don’t need?
We can then work with you to ensure that we provide you with a policy that provides all the benefits at the lowest possible cost.
Some things come as standard with our locum insurance for vets. These include a continuation option which means that, no matter how many claims are made for an individual, the policy cannot be restricted, or even cancelled at the time of renewal. All of our locum policies are also underwritten by Lloyds of London for your security.
